Desone Acoustic Elements
Adjusting the room sound

Our experience shows that as a rule standardised acoustic measures do not fulfil the differentiated wishes of the users satisfactorily.

Complex Acoustics

Categorisation into two or three types of users each with fixed, defined interior acoustics is an uncomplicated approach but does not take account of the diversity of people’s actual practical needs and the complexity of the subject.

Purpose and room acoustics

For sound recordings (for example) it is important to consider whether you are dealing with speech, singing, a musical instrument or a noise or a device, and it is not all the same whether you are recording a voice-over or a dubbing track, classical songs or jazz, a violin or drums, or lower or higher frequencies

Acoustic elements as modular components

For this reason we never offer “interior acoustics off-the-peg”, but instead we have a series of modules with different acoustic effects to choose from - from absorbent cladding to various absorbers.

After the acoustic situation has been assessed we offer a selection of acoustic components from this programme to suit the intended purpose.

Convertibility

Whether for equipment in our booths or for adjusting the interior acoustics of a recording or producing room - "convertibility" is the major feature of this modular acoustic system.

Acoustic wall cladding

A simple and inexpensive way to influence the room acoustics is to use sound-absorbent wall and ceiling claddings.

Attaching these surface absorbers to the ceiling of the room or booth, and to parts of the boundary walls, gives a basic level of sound absorption in the medium and high frequency range and in many cases is sufficient to realise the appropriate interior acoustics.

Acoustic claddings are available in the following variations:

  • Acoustic mats AKM, “pyramid” surface, tough PU foam, does not show dirt much and is simple to attach, size 1 x 1 m. The light colour “cream” is the  most pleasant and is standard cladding for most booths. Our “pebble grey” produces a relatively light effect, too, and “anthracite” is especially good at not showing dirt.
  • Acoustic tiles AKK, “pyramid” surface, fine-pore acoustic foam, pure white or light grey, size 50 x 50 cm. With almost identical absorption behaviour, the pure white “pyramid” is recommended if very pale surfaces are desired.
  • Acoustic panels AKP, “pyramid” surface, fine-pore acoustic foam, pure white, size 62,5 x 125 cm. Most useful for larger surfaces.

All the claddings can be supplied as panels for gluing in place, or with hook-and-loop attachment.

Absorbers of different designs

Absorbers make it possible to adjust the room sound in a studio and a booth in a differentiated manner: varied elements have a targeted influence on the sound field in certain frequency ranges.

Wedge absorbers effective over broad frequency range

Our wedge absorbers have high absorption values and are available in three different variations. They are made from tough PU foam and attached by hook-and-loop strips – which means they can easily be taken away or moved around without leaving any marks. The wedges can be re-arranged to vary the design.

  • KAB 40/80 as standard element for absorbing medium and high frequencies
  • KAB 80/120 with higher absorption even at lower frequencies.

All the wedge absorbers come in the format 50 x 50 cm in the colours cream, pebble grey and anthracite – and can be combined with the large-surface acoustic claddings in the corresponding colours.

Block absorbers

The block absorbers are also effective over a broad range of frequencies. They can be supplied in three different material thicknesses.

  • BAB 50 or 55, thickness 50 mm, for use when there is not much space for thick absorbers, most effective at the medium and high frequencies. Also suitable for basic sound absorption in combination with BAB 100.
  • BAB 100 or 105, thickness 100 mm, the most versatile element with high absorption coefficient (a=0.86) down to 250 Hz. The optimum absorber for equipping recording and producing rooms or sound-insulating booths.
  • BAB 150 or 155, thickness 150 mm, for use as a bass trap (arranged in room corners). Absorption coefficient = 0.8 at 125 Hz!

All the block absorbers are available in two sizes, i.e. 50 x 50 cm and 50 x 100 cm, and can therefore be used to cover complete surfaces and facilitate the design of a grid pattern.

Fabric covers in various colours allow more variations in the visual effects - the covers are also removable and easy to clean. They have hook-and-loop attachments which makes it easy to move them to a different position.

Whatever their colour, block absorbers are ideal for combining with pure white or light grey acoustic claddings on the ceiling.
